Industry heavyweight Jonathan Smith appointed as Chairman
· InPost introduces its 1000th locker location, making it by far the largest automated click and collect locker network in the UK
· Jonathan Smith becomes Chairman to help drive InPost’s ambitious expansion plans
London, UK: 18 November, 2014 – InPost, the innovative send, collect and return parcel locker service, today reveals that it has hit the 1000 locker location milestone as it rapidly scales up for the start of the busy Christmas shopping period. This establishes its 24/7 automated locker network as the largest in the UK, more extensive than 80 per cent of the UK’s top 30 click and collect retailers, highlighting the reach potential for retailers.
Click and collect services are becoming increasingly popular in the UK: 35% of online shoppers already use them, a figure set to increase to 76% by 2017*. Yet almost a quarter (23%) of consumers** still deem them as inconvenient as they require collection during store opening hours. However, this latest expansion to the InPost network means that almost three-quarters (70%) of UK postcodes are now within five miles of an automated locker, allowing busy shoppers to quickly and easily pick up parcels any time they like while ‘en route’ to the rest of their day or night.
By integrating InPost’s ecommerce solution, retailers can provide customers with more flexibility in their delivery and return options as they can now opt for their nearest InPost locker at check out. The introduction of this innovative click and collect ecommerce solution means that they are able to instantly up the scale and efficiency of their business, enabling products to reach more customers in more locations across the country and means parcels wait in for shoppers rather than the other way around.
Neil Saunders, Managing Director of retail research agency and consulting firm Conlumino, commented: “With online retail continuing to grow at a rapid pace, consumers want innovative solutions to prevent them missing parcel deliveries. Lockers provide a great part of this solution, especially because they can be operational 24 hours a day allowing the consumer to pick up products whenever it is convenient for them.
Both overall and online, retail is becoming far more competitive. We know from our own consumer research that flexibility in delivery is a key differentiator for gaining competitive advantage and lockers are playing a role in providing consumers with more delivery choices.”
Industry expert Jonathan Smith has also been appointed as Chairman of InPost to help spearhead its ambitious UK growth plans. Smith has gained experience across a wide range of industry sectors including logistics, distribution, support services, recruitment and retail, having previously been CEO of delivery service Yodel.
Smith said: “InPost is a fast-growing business that is answering a very real need in the UK, using disruptive technology to revolutionise the retail industry. We have made sure we have balanced the requirements of all the stakeholders in the value chain. We provide retailers with the ability to reach shoppers more easily and we help make deliveries and pickups logistically more efficient, all of which makes for a more reliable and convenient experience for the consumer, helping to fulfil the cycle.
“The expansion of our locker network and the opening of our 1000th locker location means that InPost is ready to support all parties during the peak of the next few months and to make sure everyone has a very happy Christmas. In 2015, we plan to grow our network to 1500 plus locations, making deliveries across the country even more convenient.”
InPost’s fully automated lockers can be found at a variety of safe and secure locations including at Morrisons supermarkets, petrol stations, train stations and Transport for London sites, outside retailers such as Toys R Us and at local shops across the UK. The lockers are always positioned in high footfall locations with many attracting an average of 15,000 visitors per week. What’s more, InPost lockers are accessible 24/7, meaning no more queues or waiting in, enabling consumers to collect and deliver items at their earliest convenience.
